Why CO2 Isnt an Organic Compound

Why CO2 Isn't an Organic Compound If organic chemistry is the study of carbon, then why isnt carbon dioxide considered to be an organic compound? The answer is because organic molecules dont just contain carbon. They contain hydrocarbons or carbon bonded to hydrogen. The C-H bond has lower bond energy than the carbon-oxygen bond in carbon dioxide, making carbon dioxide  (CO2) more stable/less reactive than the typical organic compound. So, when youre determining whether a carbon compound is organic or not, look to see whether it contains hydrogen in addition to carbon and whether the carbon is bonded to the hydrogen. Past Methods of Distinguishing Between Organic and Inorganic Although carbon dioxide contains carbon and has covalent bonds, it also fails the older test for whether or not a compound could be considered organic: Could a compound be produced from inorganic sources? Carbon dioxide occurs naturally from processes that are definitely not organic. It is released from volcanoes, minerals, and other inanimate sources. This definition of organic fell apart when chemists started to synthesize organic compounds from inorganic sources. For example, Wohler made urea (an organic) from ammonium chloride and potassium cyanate. In the case of carbon dioxide, yes, living organisms produce it, but so do many other natural processes. Thus, it was classified as inorganic. Other Examples of Inorganic Carbon Molecules Carbon dioxide isnt the only compound that contains carbon but isnt organic. Other examples include carbon monoxide (CO), sodium bicarbonate, iron cyanide complexes, and carbon tetrachloride. As you might expect, elemental carbon isnt organic either. Amorphous carbon, buckminsterfullerene, graphite, and diamond are all inorganic.

From financial crisis to global recovery Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

From financial crisis to global recovery - Essay Example Despite the global economic turmoil, the global FDI inflows rose significantly by 17 percent in 2011 in most of the economies to $ 1.5 trillion. The FDI flows increased in major economic groupings such as developing economies, transition economies and developed economies. Developing and transition economies recorded $ 755 Billion FDI inflows that were driven mainly by robust investments (Lapavitsas, 2012). FDI flows in Europe increased by 18 percent while the flows in the United States declined by 8 percent. Ireland experienced the largest FDI flows due to movements in debt and equity financial markets. The increase in FDI flows in Europe was mainly driven by cross-border corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and stabilization of the economies (Ramamurti & Hashai, 2011). However, this trend was not even in all European countries since Greece and Germany experienced a decline while countries like France saw an increase in FDI flows. Developing counties accounted for most of the global FDI flows in the first half of 2011 (Shambaugh, 2012). The FDI inflows in developing countries were at $ 684 billion. The FDI flows in transition economies rose by 6 percent in 2011 to reach $ 92 billion. ... The Sub-Saharan African region witnessed $ 37 FDI inflows in 2011 (Shambaugh, 2012). The FDI outflows from Africa were 50 percent lower in 2011 and amounted to $ 3.5 billion and mainly came from Egypt and Libya. FDI outflows from the United States reached $ 397 billion in 2011 due to appreciation of Japanese Yen since Japan was the second largest investor in the US (Shambaugh, 2012). From the above graph of global FDI flows, it is evident that the recent financial crisis negatively affected the global FDI flows. The global FDIs flows are currently on the increasing trend (Breitfeld, 2010). US economy FDI flows and balance of payments The global financial crisis of 2007-2009 led to the decline of the US trade deficit due to slowdown in imports. The US exports increased by 16 percent from 2010 to $ 1,497 billion in 2011 due to increasing economic growth in the economy. The imports also increased by the same percentage during the same period to $ 2,236 billion (Richardson, 2011). Though the two increased at the same percentage, the net effect was an increase in the trade deficit by 15 percent or $ 93 billion. In 2009, the recession led to an 18 percent in US merchandise exports and 26 percent decline in imports (Richardson, 2011). The figures however reversed in 2010 when exports in merchandise increased by 21 percent while the imports increased by 23 percent. In 2011, the trade deficit in goods was $ 738 billion on the BOP but was still lower than the previous peak of $ 836 billion in 2006. The deficit on the current account which includes the trade plus investment income and any unilateral transfers grew from $ 442 billion in 2010 to $ 466 billion in 2011 thus leading to an increase in the current account deficit by $ 24 billion. Quantitative Methods for Business Essay Example for Free

Quantitative Methods for Business Essay In January 2008, Northern Airlines merged with Southeast Airlines to create the fourth largest U.S. carrier. The new North-South Airline inherited both an aging fleet of Boeing 727-300 aircraft and Stephen Ruth. Stephen was a tough former secretary of the navy who stepped in as new president and chairman of the board. Stephen’s first concern in creating a financially solid company was maintenance costs. It was commonly surmised in the airline industry that maintenance costs rise with the age of the aircraft. He quickly noticed that historically there had been a significant difference in the reported B727-300 maintenance costs (from ATA Form 41’s) both in the airframe and engine areas between Northern Airlines and Southeast Airlines, with Southeast having the newer fleet. On February 12, 2008, Peg Jones, vice president for operation and maintenance, was called into Stephen’s office and asked to study the issue. Specifically, Stephen wanted to know whether the average fleet age was correlated to direct airframe maintenance costs, and whether there was a relationship between average fleet age and direct engine maintenance costs. Peg was to report back by February 26 with the answer, along with quantitative and graphical descriptions of the relationship. Peg’s first step was to have her staff construct the average age of Northern and Southeast B727-300 fleets, by quarter, since the introduction of that aircraft to service by each airline in late 1993 and early 1994. The average age of each fleet was calculated by first multiplying the total number of calendar days each aircraft had been in service at the pertinent point in time by the average daily utilization of the respective fleet to total fleet hours flown. The total fleet hours flown was then divided by the number of aircraft in service at that time, giving the age of the â€Å"average† aircraft in the fleet. The average utilization was found by taking the actual total fleet hours flown on September 30, 2007 form Northern and Southeast data, and dividing by the total days in service for all aircraft at that time. The average utilization for Southeast was 8.3 hours per day, and the average utilization for Northern was 8.7 hours per day. Because the available cost data were calculated for each yearly period ending at the end of the first quarter, average fleet age was calculated at the same points in time. The fleet data are shown in the following table. Airframe cost data and engine cost data are both shown paired with fleet average age in that table.

Bottle Rockets :: essays research papers

A rocket in its simplest form is a chamber enclosing a gas under pressure. A small opening at one end of the chamber allows the gas to escape, and in doing so provides a thrust that propels the rocket in the opposite direction. Newton’s laws can be used to explain this his laws in the simplest terms can be explained like this: First law- Objects at rest will stay at rest and objects in motion will stay in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Second law- Force is equal to mass times acceleration. Third law- For every action there is always an opposite and equal reaction. For the rocket to launch it needed to be propelled by something, for our rockets we used regular air and compressed it. Upon releasing the stopper Newton’s first law went into effect which states that for something to move a force must act upon it in this case the gas moving out of the bottle. When the stopper was pulled the pressure in the bottle forced its way down, which applied the force to start the motion of the bottle. His 3rd law can also explain this because the water going down forces the rocket in the exact opposite direction the water goes. Which is why one time when we shot the rocket it flew at an angle. Also it shows why the launchers had stoppers, because if they didn’t the cork wasn’t strong enough to hold that pressure and would cause the rocket to begin flight prematurely. His second law can be used to describe how high and fast the rocket will go. If you wanted it to go really high and fast you would just pump more pressure into it then if you didn’t want it to go that high. You can determine how much force is needed by multiplying the mass by the acceleration.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Our rocket was fairly decent the only problems were that the wings were not completely stable. Our egg survived in the capsule we built and one other egg even survived with out being in a capsule at all.

Levis Business Report

REPORT FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF LEVIS STRAUSS LADIES’ JEANS FOR EDGARS RETAIL STORES To Directors of Edgars, This report serves to provide information about Levis Strauss Jeans which we wish to sell through your retail stores, Edgars. Levis Strauss is a clothing line which has the potential to become very popular, especially once our new line of ladies’ jeans is introduced into the market. Target Market Although the target market for our Jeans is limited to women, the popularity and demand for Jeans is increasing by the day.The consumers would be able to wear Jeans in a casual manner with a shirt for their every day errands, and they would also be able to wear them slightly more dressed up with a blazer for work. Jeans are a piece of clothing that are worn by every class of people for almost every occasion and this would put us at an advantage in the current market. Previously, Jeans were thought to be only for workers, cowboys, etc. However, the consumer demand has shift ed from the durability of jeans to the fashion of jeans. Materials UsedThe materials needed to make the jeans would be denim, cotton, zips buttons, rivets and thread for embroidery of the brand name. These can be obtained with ease around South Africa which will lower our cost price as we will not need to import materials in order to produce the jeans. This will allow us to provide the jeans at a lower and more competitive price, therefore attracting more consumers to your stores. Possible Challenges and Strategies One of the challenges that we, as the manufacturers of the jeans, face is the threat of new entrants into the market and the threat of substitutes. Our generation consists of many young, innovative and enthusiastic designers who could possible introduce a new brand of denim jeans into the market. This could also tie in with the threat of substitutes as there are literally hundreds of lines that offer jeans as one of their products such as Guess, Sissy Boy, Free 2 b U, and RT to name but a few. In order to overcome this challenge we would need to ensure that our product has a high level of differentiation, meaning that it would need to stand out against the other brands of denim jeans. We could do this by using edgy advertisements. For example, women wearing nothing but the jeans themselves but with shadows covering the necessities such as breasts etc. This will attract women to the jeans as it implies that the jeans will give them sex appeal. We would also need to emphasise what makes our jeans different by showing their authenticity, originality, variety, quality, and their unique fit. Our jeans are also offered at a premium price and would be easily accessible to consumers as many people shop at Edgars stores. It could also be emphasised that our jeans are classic yet still modern and they can be worn for comfort as well as style. Table showing substitutes chosen if Levis Jeans were not available (Calculated on 120 respondents) Brand| Percentage of R espondents| Sissy Boy| 61%| Guess| 15%| Free 2 b u| 17%| RT| 7%| Levis Jeans can be considered as a style instead of just a fashion or a trend. A fashion and a trend grow slowly in the market but eventually the sales begin to decline. It is considered a style as, although jeans may not always be the most popular choice of clothing, they will always come back into fashion and have the potential to make a come-back in the market of the fashion industry. Another possible challenge would be that our brand could struggle internationally and this could affect its popularity locally. However, we have adopted the motto â€Å"think local and act global†. This ensures the potential consumer that the product is of good quality yet it can still be sold at a competitive and reasonable price. There have been some complaints of our jeans tearing in some places on Hello Peter, however, we have made an effort to strengthen our product physically by improving our production process and testing t he strength of certain garments in a batch to ensure that the products provided are of the highest quality possible Conclusion After careful market segmentation, efforts in improving the product and in-depth analysis of the market, we believe that our product would be a valuable addition to your range of products sold at your retail stores. With careful marketing strategies, innovative thinking and continuous attention given to the consumer needs, Levis Strauss could add to your store’s success. Please consider our proposal favourably. I put my ego in front of all doing my squad members aware of my expertness and accomplishments that I have gained in yesteryear in my place state while populating at different topographic points within different civilizations of society. After we completed the initial procedure of make up one's minding the administration name and the squad members who are traveling to work in it with their responsibilities and duties, we decided to discusses on subject about the jobs we are traveling to confront, findings, decisions, recommendations. We had unfastened treatment on every subject and reviewed the constructs if the alterations wer e required. Then my squad drafted the study for concluding unfastened treatment to jointly corroborate the subjects and doing of assignment. Own Role as mentioned above I had really effectual function in this assignment from garnering the information about different societies populating in the country and about their civilization up to pull offing the financess and transit. My good cognition around the country helped my squad a batch in garnering the natural information about people wonts, attitude, their demands like linguistic communication barriers etc. this saved batch of clip. Our squad worked in a group in our formed trust: Hope and Help charitable trust. It is at Papatoe-toe ( south Auckland ) . I am working on civilization. I went to other trust supplying same installations in Papatoe-toe ; to see how I can preform and derive experience. I met their different sort of people coming from assorted parts of India. I took permission from the director. He introduced me to assorted people while the java nine was traveling. Another clip when I went there the English category was traveling people were larning basic of communicating and reading etc. Their I came to cognize that people differ with each other in assorted facets like nutrient, civilization, acclivity, linguistic communication etc. the biggest difference I noticed was the difference between eastern and western civilization that is the difference between Indian civilization and New Zealand civilization, that usually immigrant people face. Were worked as squad and tried to assist each other in finishing their activities they were assigned. Apart my specific function I helped in assorted activities such as in over sing the purpose of our administration and assisting Kulwinder in making so. Deciding the job, which we used to discourse every twenty-four hours in our meetings, supplying my positions to happen best solution. I managed clip agenda. I looked into the transit of aged people and to supply them cognition of local transit, timings of coachs and trains. I managed to organize their pick-ups from their place and drop them back. I tried to pull off some of my voluntary friends who had autos or new waves and can assist my administration. They used to supply free transit to our clients.Identified jobsWhile transporting on our responsibilities we faced jobs such as clip direction, financess, aggregation of informations about the people who need these services. The difference in civilization was a large barrier to finish this undertaking as assorted immigrants specially aged people lack English. Communication barriers be tween assorted cultural groups made the occupation spot hard. Different spiritual beliefs, different nutrient gustatory sensation etc are besides assorted factors that made it more competitory. Lack of engagement by people besides made it seize with teeth difficult to transport on our activities. Time was greatest factor set uping my squad as we all had short clip to finish this assignment.Procedure of solutionsOur expert squad members managed solution to assorted jobs. Some of illustrations are such as the intent of our administration was managed by all of our squad members. Group member scheduled the construction of our administration. We all communicated in honest and unfastened manner so that the needed consequence could be achieved. I encouraged my squad members on their treatment and positions they provided. This practise helped in supervising each other activities and supplying suggestions and edifice trust on each other. My squad how so of all time managed to finish this in scheduled clip frame but still in future I would state that we have to be organised specifically with our clip for better consequences. My squad member ‘s determinations that I agreed to I supported my consent to assorted determinations of my squad members about our clear motivation, single functions, unfastened treatments, adhering and showing corporate ides to happen better solution, repute of constitution, clip agenda, communicating with each of our squad members, back uping them. I agreed on utilizing the experiences and accomplishments of each other. We all agreed to follow some of the schemes while completing the assignment. My squad at some phases used following Schemes such as Swot Analysis and BCG matrix technique scheme was organised and studied and implemented by all of our squad members. The job resolution was discussed and solution found by all of us in our squad, five measure job resolution and squad the proper clip was rostered implemented the purpose of trust so that everyone can come to take and give his or her lessons. We organised assorted stables and events at assorted maps, shopping Centres to raise financess to transport on our administration activities and to supply assorted installations to people. We used to hold a brief meeting within all of our squad members to run our twenty-four hours to twenty-four hours activities and to make certain determination.RecommendationMy couples and I worked otherwise to do the plan easier for aged people. We discussed on how to do them larn and understand the new cultural difference. I practically tried to set up meeting with other aged peoples of different civilization. The get together were arranged such as little map or sitting together and chat and a cup of java or tea with some bites. I personally recommended the practical instruction that is blending of two or four people, sitting together and with aid of translator discoursing on nutrient, civilization, country cognition etc. It is the most of import portion of the assignment that helps in future. This recommendations can be used in farther activates if required by groups. As I have mentioned above about the clip direction, we had to finish this in really short clip span. This put batch of force per unit area on all of squad members. The force per unit area of clip frame being non plenty to team resulted in confrontation at some phases. Though they were resolved ASAP. But still it matters if there is adequate clip and the program is organised harmonizing to that. This undertaking being practical I would state that my squad needed more clip as we had to travel out in local Aress to roll up the information ‘s and so transport group treatment on that collected information to make to certain nonsubjective. In future assignment I would instead prefer to be really organized and utilize some other techniques to work out the jobs. I would urge to do anterior assignment on phone with household members of the aged people alternatively of strike harding door to door, the one our squad did this clip. This consequence in salvaging more clip by repairing anterior assignments. While doing assignment we can take their consent besides for engagement of their aged parents. Which in this assignment had to make after reaching the aged and destitute people.RestrictionsWe had to travel in front with in assorted regulations and ordinances from authorities. Authenticity of trust was to be created in heads and Black Marias of people. Limited beginnings of financess. Cultural spread and different behaviors of cultural groups are certain restrictions. I would state we would hold squad of atleast 10 members that will split our work and salvage clip because this we had to be multitask being less in figure. I would propose traveling and go toing a short workshop with any other similar administration to increase our ability to execu te. As we had many restrictions during this undertaking such as clip, adult male power, information, and computing machine installations.DecisionsThe trust we formed seems to be good to all of new immigrants particularly the aged who have nowhere to travel and pass the clip. We tried to make involvement among them and their households to diminish the barrier of communicating, solitariness, understanding of new civilization, country cognition and BASIC of about how to confront the jobs while they are new in the state. Free Essays on Ideal Code Of Ethics

Abstract The focus of this paper will be to identify what an ideal code of ethics is. A code of ethics is truly honored by the officer(s) that is required to follow it. I view the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics as being the ideal code of ethics for a police officer. I view the ideal code of ethics as a means to serve as an oath to the particular position that one has been hired to fulfill. In his book Police Ethics, David Hanson duplicated The Law Enforcement Code of Ethics. This code of ethics I find is a very effective in serving the purpose of the oath for a young or new police officer that the International Association of chiefs of Police would apply. The code of ethics can be a guideline and I must admit that I am not familiar with the hiring and or oaths required for police. However, I see that each employer has a code of conduct in place. The employee code of conduct establishes the requirements of each employee. The employee may be required to show up to work on time, follow department guidelines, policies, and procedures. The same code of conduct may refer to ethical violations. On page xvii of the Police Ethics, in the second paragraph of the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics, â€Å"I will be exemplary in obeying the laws of the land and the regulations of my department.† Much of every ethics statement in this refers to policy guidelines. I looked at this particular Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and noted that it also has some reference to situations that is not covered in a particular department policy. Most departments have the code of conduct rule â€Å"any act that is deemed to be a poor representation of the department† but not many cover the understanding of the badge and to what symbol it serves. The power or the heart felt message is what is difficult to explain of an ideal code of ethics. The ideal code of ethics should be one that addresses the requirements of the badge and what it symbo... Free sample - The Wal-Mart Organization. translation missing

The Wal-Mart Organization. The Wal-Mart OrganizationTraining evaluation and its effectiveness There are many types of training evaluation used but the Wal-Mart Organization adopted the input evaluation method because it was relevant to the organization. Input evaluation is used to assess all the elements associated with the training based on the selection of trainers, trainees, materials, venue, curriculum plan, and the cost (Tessaring Descy, 2004). The training evaluation method is effective because it met all what I expected from the training. The training was helpful because I learnt many new things, which will assist me, improve on my performance in the organization. According to the participant’s views and comments after the training, they were satisfied that the training was helpful. Most of them recommended that such training sessions should be organized regularly to equip them with new skills and knowledge (Tessaring Descy, 2004). The effectiveness of the training evaluation would be determined by the on how the participants answer the question and how they will conduct themselves at the work place. Evaluation design Evaluation design is a conceptual framework or a logical model that is used to come up with a conclusion (Tessaring Descy, 2004). The following the evaluation design I adopted. Who are the primary audience? The primary audience in this case is the employees of the Wal-Mart Organization. What is the primary purpose? The main aim or the purpose is to train them on how evaluation is done and its importance to them and to the organization in general. What is the best method of collecting information? Using questionnaires was the most appropriate method because it will be detailed and the respondents will be free to provide the required information in accordance to the questions asked and the information needed. How will the information be analyzed? The information will be analyzed based on the questions and information in the questionnaires. For example, graphs may be used if it contains a lot of figures and a summary if it contains only some comments and explanations (Tessaring Descy, 2004). How will the information be reported? It can be in form of a written report or a presentation is done to the employees if there is enough time and all employees will be available during presentation. Since I will the one reporting the findings, I would prefer to do a presentation so that all employees can participate fully and ask questions for further clarification (Tessaring Descy, 2004). It is important for an organization to have a clear evaluation design because this is the only way of providing a solution to the problems affecting the organization and the employees as well. Lack of clear understanding by the employees of what evaluation is, may lead to problems when the results are out on an individual employee on his or her performance (Tessaring Descy, 2004). The hypothetical evaluation To that, the evaluation was effective; the audience who are the employees of Wal-Mart Organization had a session of debriefing, warm up, presentation and the time to cover the presentation materials (Tessaring Descy, 2004). I found time to ask the employees and all those who attended the training on what they gained from the whole session. The employee’s perspective towards the organization changed for the good because of how the employees conducted themselves at the work place. All the sessions were fully utilized by trainees because it was evidenced even when they were on break, there were discussions, and posing many questions on various issues (Tessaring Descy, 2004). From the period allocated for each activity, many issues were discussed. Though it has not been practically proved, I believe that, employees will apply what they learnt in the training session at the organization. Reference: Tessaring, M. and Descy, P. (2004). Assertive Behavior Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Assertive Behavior - Essay Example At the end of the vignettes there is a compiled scenario with a response following it. This scenario is totally fictitious but is carried out to show a thorough comprehension of the material that has been studied. I have begun paying a lot more attention to my social atmosphere around me and have noticed many different traits in all people of all different ethnic classes and economic levels as well. I think what starts more conflicts than anything else in society is a misjudgment of people based on first impressions and it happens to be one of my own personal fears. People look at someone and judge them based on how they wear their hair, how they dress, how they speak, and even their body language. Many disagreements among people could be avoided if they only took the time to open their eyes and look beyond that first impression and get to know people for who they really are, not the superficial aspects of individuals. I personally have my own boundaries and there are certain actions and words that can make me snap and act out inappropriately just as anyone else does. Some of these are based on specific statements concerning race and economic position in society. I hate it when people think they are better than someone else simply because they can afford a better car, more expensive clothing, and larger home. Also, it makes me very angry when people judge someone based on their color or personal beliefs. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and it should be allowed freely and without worry of being ridiculed or beaten up because of it. Isolation is a great fear I have and I have a problem with discussing certain feelings I have because I feel I will then have to deal with ignorance and inappropriate attitudes for a long time that I won’t be able to avoid. This makes me snap very easily and I don’t like that but it is something that I don’t think I
